Performance Systems Development (PSD) would like to say THANK YOU to those who have served in our armed forces and for all that they have sacrificed to protect our freedom!

In honor of Veterans Day, we interviewed two of PSD’s very own vets, Shane Bulick and Rick Provlic. Learning about their military careers and how it made them who they are today was truly an honor. Thank you for your participation Shane and Rick! You can read the full interviews below.


Shane Bulick – QA Weatherization Field Manager

What branch of the military did you serve in? Any fun roles/titles?

  • Six years in the United States Marine Corps as a Truck Driver, “I drove everything with wheels”
  • Attended PMI School and became a PMI instructor
  • Completed Nuclear Biomechanical Warfare School

Is serving in the military a family legacy or were you the first?  

  • Every generation of Shane’s family has served, including both his mother and father’s families
  • His uncle was a pilot in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam wars (shot down 3 times in Vietnam)
  • Shane was born in Beauford South Carolina on a naval base where his father was stationed

Where did you serve? 

  • Iraq
  • Spent time in Germany, Kuwait, and Ireland in transit to Iraq
  • Stationed on a base in California

What does a day in the life of Shane @ PSD look like? What do you enjoy about your job?

  • Overseeing financials and forecasting projections
  • Planning and adjusting PSD’s field work due to Covid-19
  • Loves the variety of his daily work
  • Enjoys that his position involves building science and field work
  • Tech guy at heart, that’s been using it for 10+ years

Is there anything from your military experience that has helped you in your post-military career? 

  • LEADERSHIP, they teach leadership to all marines, it is very important
  • The Marine Corps brought out his best leadership qualities and helped him grow as a leader
  • Discipline 
  • Mission accomplishment

What do you do when you aren’t at work?  Interesting hobbies? 

  • Fishing at Penn’s Creek (Eastern Trout Stream)
  • Training birddogs for pheasant hunting
  • Scouting for deer

Any interesting thing about yourself that not a lot of people know?   

  • Shane say’s he’s an open book, and there’s not a lot that people don’t know about him as he wears his heart on his sleeve

Rick Provlic – QA Field Inspector

What branch of the military did you serve in? Any fun roles/titles? 

  • Army National Guard 
  • He joined immediately out of High School
  • Completed NCO school and climbed the ranks to Staff Sargent
  • Led a company of M60 Machine Gunners
  • Served during peace time  

Family legacy or were you the first? 

  • Father and brother served in the same unit (made the local newspapers!)
  • Uncle and grandfather also served in the military
  • Father-in-law served in Vietnam

How did you serve/where? 

  • Trained with Airbourne and completed a machine gun leadership course in South Carolina
  • Went to France and completed training
  • He always looked forward to the beer buggy coming around every other day, as each person received two beers to drink in the shade
  • Remembers cold winters and shoveling snow for entire company

What does a day in the life of Rick @ PSD look it? 

  • Always busy, working and enjoying the people at PSD
  • He thinks Shane is the best boss he’s ever worked for!

Anything from your military experience has helped you in your post-military career? 

  • Politeness – make sure to respect others, and use “yes sir/yes mam”
  • Respecting and listening to the elderly to learn more about the past

What do you do when you aren’t at work?  Interesting hobbies? 

  • Loves to fish, especially steelhead trout in Erie, PA
  • Enjoys spending time with his two granddaughters
  • His family always has some type of handyman project for him on the weekend
  • He also enjoys camping, eating good food and enjoying cold sweet tea!

Any interesting thing about yourself that not a lot of people know? 

  • Enjoys listening to country music
