Once again, staff from Performance Systems Development headed south to Orlando, Florida, only this time to attend the Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET) 2013 Conference at the World Center Marriott. RESNET’s annual get together provided PSD staff with the opportunity to catch up with PSD Raters, learn about exciting new building technologies and best practices, and present interesting topics to industry peers! RESNET always brings together a fun and exciting mix of professionals in the energy efficiency industry, and PSD had a great time exhibiting and participating in the many events and activities.
Emelie Cuppernell, PSD’s Manager of HERS Rater Provider Services, gave a presentation entitled, “The Independent Rater: Challenges and Opportunities,” that highlighted ways for raters to maintain and expand their rating business. As a rater for seven years, and PSD’s HERS Rater Provider manager for three, Emelie was able to offer considerations of the trade that were welcomed by many raters in attendance.
Another PSD staff member, Kathy Greely, Senior Vice President of Program Services, participated on a panel entitled “ENERGY STAR V3.0: Program Survival Strategies in Year One.” As the head of PSD’s programs team, Kathy was able to speak to the challenges that both program implementers and participants face when programs transition to the newest and most stringent ENERGY STAR standard.
PSD’s staff has always been actively involved in shaping standards and assisting credentialing bodies, and this was certainly true at RESNET. Ethan MacCormick, PSD’s Vice President of Services to Energy Businesses, and Emelie participated in a “train-the-trainer” to become qualified to train contractors to become HVAC “Quality Assurance Professionals” (QAP) — a new requirement for ENERGY STAR version 3. To register for the first QAP training offered by PSD on March 18th, in Cleveland, Ohio, please click here. Ethan and Emelie also participated in the RESNET Quality Assurance and RESNET Trainer roundtables to learn about changes to the RESNET standards that have occurred over the last year.
In keeping with PSD’s tradition of moving the energy efficiency industry forward, Greg Thomas, PSD’s CEO and founder, spoke with Steve Baden, RESNET’s Executive Director, about ways to increase participation in the exciting new EnergySmart Contractor certification. PSD is one of only four companies in the country to offer the certification and Providership to home performance contractors.
